DAY 17 (Thursday July 5th) Worland, WY to Buffalo, WY:  108 miles.  (92 on the cue sheet...Theo, Erin and I climbed to a summit twice again today). We had some rolling hills in the first 30 miles, then the big climb. The climb today was through the Powder River Pass (elev 9666 ft), and about a 25 mile climb to the summit. The first 4 miles was at 4-5% grade, the next 10 miles at 6% grade and the last part varied between 4%-10% grade. Picnic (lunch) was 8 miles from the summit. We skipped picnic to go right to the summit first, then we came back down the 8 miles descend to picnic, then climbed the summit again (an extra 16 miles in total). I rode the last section of the first climb with Tim, who skipped picnic all together and shuffled off to Buffalo early. I had some hub issues on my descend, that we fixed at picnic, then Erin, Theo and I did the summit again. We ended the ride with several additional hard climbs on big rollers (where I felt the pain from my two summits), then a great 5 mile descend at 7% into Buffalo, WY. Buffalo is a great place. We went to the Occidental Hotel after dinner. It is an old hotel from the 1800's where people like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid (and other notables) stayed. Every Thursday the locals come together and jam on bluegrass music inside the hotel bar. We hung out there until 10:30pm. A great night.
